Nairobi National Park, the smallest Kenyan park is just 30 minutes drive south of Nairobi city centre. Standing safely next to a pride of lions, one is able to see the metropolis at a distance. A complete drive round the park will take you 3-4 hours through herds of species of antelopes such as Impala, Kongoni and where, except Elephants, are other mammals namely Giraffe, Rhino, Buffalo, Hippo, Zebra, Cheetah, Hyena and the elusive Leopard plus species of monkeys. The Ostrich and many other bird species are to be found.
Adjacent to the gate of the park are one, the “Animal Orphanage” which is more of a zoo and two, the “Safari Walk” where one is in a position to see several species of animals including the Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena, Buffalo, Albino Zebra, the Bongo and other smaller cats as well as some bird species. These two places are mainly recommended for those who may want to see the animals at close quarters but have no time to visit distant parks but have some time to kill before catching a flight home or have limited time between busy business meetings.
